Lockdown Extended the IPL to May 3


New Delhi:- The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) on Thursday postponed the IPL 2020 season until further notice after the nationwide lockdown was extended to May 3 due to the Corona virus epidemic, which was reported to the franchise a few days ago.  The IPL was to be held from 29 March but it was earlier postponed to 15 April.

Sri Lanka is excited to Host IPL 2020


In the coronavirus pandemic situation many sports events are cancelled or postponed across the worldwide.At the same time, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has expressed keenness to host this tournament.

SLC President Shammi Silva said, 'It seems to me that Corona in Sri Lanka will be completely decimated.  If we can host the tournament, we will write a letter to the BCCI soon.
Sri Lanka has around 250 corona cases,which include 7 death and 68 peoples were recovered from the disease.

BCCI Made an Offical Announcement


BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said on Thursday, "The BCCI's IPL Governing Council has postponed the 2020 session until further notice due to the lockdown by the government to prevent the health crisis and epidemic that has arisen across the world due to Corona."The health of every person associated with sports is paramount.

The BCCI, franchise owners, broadcasters, sponsors and all concerned have decided together that this season of IPL will be played only when the conditions are safe.

We will keep reviewing the situation. Keeping in touch with all the concerned parties, a possible new date will be reviewed and all the circumstances regarding the date will be monitored.

IPL Tournament should be done in future as it has linked the livelihood of many people.The window of tournament is between September to November. But for this India will have to leave the Asia Cup in Dubai or Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council have to postpone the T20 World Cup which is to be held in October - November.

South Africa Hosted IPL in 2009


South Africa hosted Ipl in 2009 due to Lok Sabha election.


The IPL has been held twice due to the Lok Sabha elections.  While the second season of the tournament was successfully concluded in South Africa in 2009, the UAE also hosted some of the first matches due to the general election in 2014, although matches started again at home from May 2 onwards.  The tournament was held in South Africa where Hyderabad Deccan Chargers won, then in 2014 Kolkata Knight Riders won the championship for the second time.

Health and Safety are top Priority- said by BCCI Secretary


BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said in his statement on Thursday, 'BCCI's IPL Governing Council has decided that due to global health concerns developed about COVID-19 and lockdown measures implemented by the Government of India to prevent the spread of the epidemic. IPL 2020 season to be suspended for further notice. The safety and health of the nation is a top priority for us. 

This season of the Indian Premier League will start only when the atmosphere is suitable to organise the tournament..The board has informed the Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners, broadcasters, sponsors and beneficiaries about this.
