Did Sri lanka Hosting IPL 2020?

The IPL was scheduled to be held from March 29 to May 24 as per the pre-scheduled schedule, but has been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus. The board will conduct it only after things become normal.

SLC President Shammi Silva said on Thursday that Sri Lanka is ready to organize the tournament in its home country, where the number of people infected with Covid-19 is much lower and things are likely to return to normal soon than in India.

A senior board official told PTI on the condition of confidentiality, "When everything in the world has come to a standstill, the BCCI is in no position to say anything."

There are around 238 cases of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka, while virus infected person in India has crossed 13,000 while Nearly 450 have died in India.

The officer was asked what should be his attitude when he got the offer from Sri Lanka, he said, "If there is no proposal from SLC yet, then there is no question of discussing it."

SLC can host matches at the three grounds Galle, Kandy and R Premadasa Stadium, it will have more financial benefit from the IPL event than India hosting three One-Day and three T20s in July.

The BCCI is keen to conduct IPL in September-October or October-November. A former BCCI official who was involved in the decision to hold the IPL in South Africa in 2009 said that the picture could change after appointment of the ICC chairman Shashank Manohar in May.
